Personal data

Matthias Dombrowe was born on March 26, 1962 in Lüdenscheid. Following his A-levels (Abitur) at the Marienschule in Bielefeld he did his military service in Rothenburg/Wümme and Bielefeld.

He studied law at the Westfälische Wilhelms-University in Münster. In 1990, he took his First State Examination, followed by the Second State Examination in 1994. In the same year he was admitted to practice as a lawyer.

Dombrowe has been with the law firm STEINER WECKE & KOLLEGEN since 1996. At the end of 1998 he successfully completed the training course for certified specialists in family law. In 2005, he was additionally awarded the title of Certified Specialist in the law of succession and, in 2010, completed the training course to become a Certified Specialist in tenancy and residential property law.

Dombrowe is a member of the Working Group for Family Law and the Law of Succession of the German Bar Association (Arbeitsgemeinschaft für Familien- und Erbrecht im Deutschen Anwaltverein”) and of the German Society for the Law of Succession (“Deutsche Gesellschaft für Erbrechtskunde e.V.“).

Practice focus

Dombrowe advises clients on all legal matters related to matrimonial and family law. He not only represents clients in family law proceedings, but also drafts contracts for married or unmarried couples tailored to suit the clients’ needs.

In his capacity as a Certified Specialist in the law of succession, Dombrowe assists clients, in particular, with the settlement of estates and the enforcement/defense of claims to a compulsory portion. Another focus is on drafting last wills and contracts of inheritance. In particular, he develops strategies for company successions in co-operation with tax consultants, auditors and other experts. Dombrowe also acts as a court-appointed curator and executor of estates.

Moreover, Dombrowe is in charge of the practice area dealing with tenancy and residential property law. In such cases he is particularly concerned with the reconciliation of the parties’ interests. Besides drafting contracts, Dombrowe tries to avoid litigation in the interest of the parties who are often contractually bound to each other for many years.
