Johannes Steiner was born on December 5, 1952 in Kamen/Westphalia. Due to his father’s work as a professor he attended school in Münster, Karlsruhe, Carbondale (USA) and Bayreuth.
Following the A-levels (Abitur) Steiner studied law at the universities of Erlangen, Bielefeld and Münster. In 1978 he took the First State Examination. During his legal clerkship Steiner undertook post-graduate studies at the German University of Administrative Sciences Speyer. After his Second State Examination he set himself up as a lawyer in Gütersloh in 1980. In 1991 Steiner was appointed as notary.
